Summary

The restore operation for the specified database failed.

Causes
This rule does not contain any causes.
Resolutions

Do the following:

Look in the Application event log for more information about the error. To do this:

  • On the taskbar, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Event Viewer.

  • In the console tree, click Application. To see a description of an event, double-click the event in the details pane.

There may be additional information about the error in the Data section of the Event Properties dialog box.

Alternatively, you can view the event log information for the alert from the MOM Administrator Console. To do this:

  • Double-click the alert.

  • On the Events tab, double-click the event listed in the window. The description of the event, as it appears in the event log, is shown.

The resolution depends on the error. The event should provide guidance about the type of error.

Typical errors include:

Permissions. An account that is used during the backup process does not have the necessary permissions for the file share. Several accounts could be involved:

  • The account that launched Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Backup and Restore

  • The account under which the Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQLServer) service is running

  • The account used for the portal site application pool identity

Network problems.

Hard disk space problems.
