Summary

This object monitors whether the DFS Namespace Components Discovery failed because Dfsutil.exe was not found.

Causes

The discovery script could fail to locate Dfsutil.exe on a server running Windows Server 2003 for the following reasons:

  • The Windows Server 2003 Support Tools are not installed.

  • The Windows Server 2003 Support Tools Path parameter is set to the incorrect path.

The discovery script could fail to locate Dfsutil.exe on a server running Windows Server 2008 if Dfsutil.exe was moved to a location other than %WINDIR%\System32.

Resolutions

If the server is running Windows Server 2003, perform the following tasks:

  • If they are not already installed, download and install the Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 32-bit Support Tools (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=171031)from the Microsoft Download Center.

  • In the Operations console, override the Support Tools Path parameter for the DFS Namespace Components Discovery object so that it refers to the correct path. For more information, see the Management Pack Guide that accompanies this management pack: DFS Namespaces Management Pack Guide (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=171038).
