Summary

This monitor checks for multiple namespaces hosted by a version of Windows that doesn’t support multiple namespaces. It does this by checking namespace servers running prerelease versions of Windows.

Causes

This is caused by hosting multiple namespaces on a server running Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition without Service Pack 2.

Resolutions

To resolve this issue, perform one of the following actions:

  • If there are only two namespaces - one stand-alone namespace and one domain-based namespace, install Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 or newer.

  • Export the namespaces to a file by using the dfsutil command, and then import each namespace to a separate namespace server.

  • Export the namespaces to a file by using the dfsutil command, and then import all namespaces to a version of Windows that supports hosting multiple namespaces of any type.

After you resolve the problem, manually reset the health state of this monitor to Healthy.
