Summary

When the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Server service initializes, it checks for proper configuration of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) for DHCPv6, including the presence of a static IPv6 address. Successful initialization results when the DHCPv6 server has established network communication by using TCP/IP.

Causes

The DHCP service failed to initialize. The server cannot initialize until it has a static IPv6 address configured and proper configuration parameters. Client computers cannot obtain new leases from the DHCP server and will not have network connectivity.

Resolutions

Resolution: Restart the DHCP Server service

To perform these procedures, you must be a member of the Administrators group, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To restart the DHCP Server service:

• At the DHCP server computer, click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

• Double-click DHCP Server.

• On the General tab, click Stop, and then click Start.

• On the File menu, click Exit.
