Summary

The percent of MySQL Server connections that are currently being aborted. Aborted connections can result from invalid login credentials from a client application or from timing out. This monitor takes the number of aborted connections from the status variable ‘Aborted_connects’ and divides by the status variable ‘Connections’.

Causes

An unhealthy state indicates the percentage of aborted connections on the MySQL Server is currently high. This can be caused by the following:

  • incorrect privileges used when connecting to a database

  • client program does not close connection before exit

  • connect packets take longer than global variable connect_timeout

  • connect packet is malformed

  • connect packets are larger than global variable max_allowed_packet

  • Misconfigured TCP/IP

Resolutions

To address high aborted connections choose one or more of the following options:

  • determine privileges client programs utilize

  • verify proper termination of mysql connection in client program

  • increase global variable connect_timeout

  • increase global variable max_allowed_packet
