Summary

The DFS Replication service may register this event if it was unable to register its Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provider on the affected computer.

Event: 6104

Anti-event: 6102, 1004, 1104

Causes

The DFS Replication service may encounter this error if it failed to register its WMI provider on the affected computer. The WMI interface is used for configuring DFS Replication and by tools such as dfsrdiag.exe which monitor the health of replication. Replication will be disabled until the problem is resolved.

Resolutions

Start (or restart) the Windows Management Instrumentation service on the affected computer. To do so, open a command prompt window on the affected computer and then type the following commands:

Net Stop "Windows Management Instrumentation"

Net Start "Windows Management Instrumentation"
