Summary

The DFS replication service may register this event if it is unable to replicate to or from the specified volume due to an error.

Event: 2004

Anti-events: 2002, 2008, 2010, 1004, 1104

Causes

This event may be registered by the DFS Replication service if it is unable to replicate to or from a volume which has replicated folders on it. This may be due to errors such as:

  • If the service encounters a disk full error when attempting to initialize the volume. This may also occur if a configured quota threshold has been exceeded.

  • If there isn’t adequate free space available on the volume to install updates to the files in the replicated folder.

  • If the service is unable to stage files for replicated folders located on the affected volume, since adequate free space is not available.

The event text on the affected computer provides more information about the actual reason causing the error.

Resolutions

To resolve the problem, try the following actions:

  • Review the event text for DFS Replication event 2004 on the affected server to obtain more information about why the problem was caused.

  • Ensure that there is enough free storage space on the specified volume so that the service does not encounter disk full errors while initializing the volume.

  • If a storage quota has been configured for the specified volume and the storage is near the quota limit, consider increasing the quota.

  • Optionally, consider relocating the staging area for one or more replicated folders located on the affected volume to another volume in order to free up space.
