Summary

This object monitors character translation and generates an alert if Server for NFS cannot read the character translation file.

Character translation resolves conflicts between Windows and UNIX file names. This monitor checks for messages that indicate Server for NFS cannot read the character translation file.

Causes

This alert is raised if Server for NFS cannot read the character translation file or the file is corrupt. Inspect the event log for messages from Source Microsoft-Windows-ServicesForNFS-Server with the Event ID 1057 -Server for NFS could not read the character translation file.

Resolutions

Restore character translation file

To restore the character translation file, use the following procedure:

1. At an elevated command prompt on the affected server, type nfsadmin server to display the name of the character translation file (Translation File Name).

2. Restore a backup copy of the character translation file or create a new file at the same location.

Verification

To verify that Server for NFS is properly configured for character translation, use the following procedure:

1. At an elevated command prompt, type nfsadmin server config.

2. Verify that the Translation File Name field displays the correct location of your translation file.
