Summary

This object monitors the replication protocol version of each member of a replication group, and generates a Warning alert if the versions are incompatible. It does so by looking for the presence of DFS Replication Event 5102.

Causes

An unhealthy state of this monitor indicates that replication failed because the replication partners were using incompatible versions of the replication protocol.

Resolutions

Install the latest updates

Install the latest service pack and updates on all members of the replication group.

Check the Dfsrs.exe version

If all members of the replication group have the latest service packs and updates installed, use the following procedure to check the version of the Dfsrs.exe file on each member of the replication group.

1. Open Windows Explorer and go to the %WINDIR%\system32 directory.

2. Right-click dfsrs.exe (Dfsr.exe on computers running Windows Server 2003 R2), and then click Properties.

3. On the Details tab of the Properties dialog box, note the Product version number.

4. If the product version numbers differ between members of the group, confirm that the latest hotfixes are installed on all members of the replication group.

Verification

After resolving the underlying problem(s), this monitor should return to a healthy state.
